LA PUENTE – Torch Middle School sixth-grade student Andrea Kamatoy was one of two dozen Bassett Unified students from both Torch and Edgewood Academy who talked about their experiences launching rockets carrying popcorn kernels, jelly beans and grass during Citrus College’s 3-2-1 Blast Off! Symposium.
“I enjoyed everything about this program,” Kamatoy said. “Working on a college campus was a new experience for me, but it was nice to have some of my friends join me and my favorite part was being able to build and launch our own rockets!”
The extracurricular program began in September, kicking off the second year that Bassett Unified has partnered with Citrus College to teach sixth-graders the basics of rocket science.
“I would encourage students to consider any college campus program available to them, because we want them to see what college is like and know that college is an option for them,” Citrus College Faculty Advisor Lucia Riderer said.
Students received certificate of completions and prizes for their work.
