LA PUENTE – For over 20 years Christina Topjian, who teaches English and journalism at Bassett High School, has engaged students both as a teacher and as a club advisor and activities coordinator, has been named Bassett Unified’s 2019 District Teacher of the Year.
Topjian was honored during Teacher Appreciation Week, when Superintendent Debra French and her cabinet presented her with a special plaque in front of administrators and high school faculty and staff, who celebrated Topjian with cheers and congratulations.
“It’s an honor to represent the District that has shaped me into the teacher I am today,” Topjian said. “I love our students and this community and I’m committed to doing what I can to make their high school experience the best it can be.”
Topjian is the advisor for Bassett Connects, a club that focuses on connecting high school students with their community and on bringing awareness to mental health issues.
“The District has supported my training and allowed me to do what I am most passionate about: connect students to their education in a real and lasting way,” she said.
“Bassett Unified School District is fortunate enough to have an array of remarkable teachers and staff who are always going above and beyond for their students,” Superintendent Debra French said.
Bassett Unified will honor campus teachers of the year across the District during a special board meeting on Tuesday, May 28.
